Bábovka

Bábovka is a traditional Czech coffee cake that would usually be served on a Sunday afternoon alongside with a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate (whichever you might prefer). It is quick, easy and pretty yummy!

There are various kinds of bábovka (classical vanilla-chocolate combination, walnut bábovka…) yet I opted for an all-chocolate one (cocoa powder to be precise). Follow the recipe below, if you would like to give the Czech bábovka a try… 😉

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 250 g sugar
  • 125 g butter
  • 10 g vanilla sugar
  • 200 g flour
  • 6 g baking powder
  • 15 ml milk
  • 40 g cocoa powder

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180° C
  2. Separate egg yolks and egg whites
  3. Firstly mix together the egg yolks with sugar, vanilla sugar and butter
  4. Add flour, baking powder, milk and cocoa powder
  5. Whisk the egg whites until they are stiff
  6. Gently fold in the egg whites into the mixture
  7. Pour into a Bundt pan (greased and floured)
  8. Bake for approximately 1 hour or until a wooden stick inserted in the middle comes out clean
  9. Enjoy!
